Since 1989, GEM Photography has been consistently perfecting its efforts to combine the most modern skills of today with the old-fashioned quality of yesterday to offer customers a perfect combination for the future.
GEM Photography offers a wide range of products and services to Southern West Virginia and beyond. The photographs utilize the antique Cirkut Camera to capture a wide panoramic view unparalleled by any modern day camera. This process, which is known by less than 30 photographers nationwide provides an image up to six feet long and 10 inches high in a sharp, bright color contact print and is the perfect choice for large groups or wide angle landscapes.
In addition to the color photos produced to custom specifications, GEM Photography maintains the largest known collection of coal mining panoramics in America. This collection of work by coalfield photographer, Rufus "Red" Ribble includes over 400 scenes of coal miners, coal towns, and coal people spanning a period from 1919 to 1957. These scenes are printed from original black and white negatives just as they were half a century ago.
A picture is worth a thousand words but many enthusiasts are eager for both, and GEM Photography meets this need with a full range of carefully researched publications featuring the history and legends of the coal boom days of Southern West Virginia.
